Chapter History
The Hammond (LA) Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was born through the dedication and efforts of six (6) altruistic, civic-minded women who had an Uncompromising Commitment to Sisterhood, Scholarship, Service, and Empowerment. They envisioned the establishment of a chapter that would serve the rural areas of Tangipahoa Parish and continue the work and honor the legacy set forth by the national organization’s twenty-two (22) founders.
In early 1974, inquiries were made to National and Regional Officers, regarding the establishment of a local chapter. With the aid of then, Regional Director Eula Butler of the Baton Rouge Delta Chapter, we were able to acquire the required number of Sorority Members to establish a chapter. With the acquisition of nine (9) more members with the same vision and committed to the same worthy cause, the Hammond (LA) Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on May 31, 1975.
